Half past midnight & Taz & I have just got home from the Accident & Emergency clinic at Guildford hospital. I had a speck of metal grinding dust in my eye, which was giving me blurry vision. I think I did it at the workshop yesterday. I always wear safety glasses, but they don't protect you from everything & I might well have accidentally wiped my face with my sleeve or something & rubbed it in. This is the second time in 6 months I've done it. My brother, Brock, has permanently damaged vision from doing just this -so next time you're in the shed, PLEASE make sure you wear safety glasses, (I actually keep mine on most of the time I'm working now, whether I'm doing anything dangerous or not). You can buy a plastic pair for a couple of quid & they might just save your eyesight.

Hope it clears up ok Andy.Eyes are everything.Had similar myself. Seems to me that it always takes someone having an accident like this to shock people back into health and safety protection! So easily done.A few months back I went through a stage of always wearing a mask/safety goggles and a leather apron when grinding. This was after YANTO (remember him?)on here had a grinder accident.Ive let it slip of late,so its a good reminder to me ,and every one of us 'shed builders'. Im going to sort my safety gear out today!  Hope you dont have to have any time off work Andy.       Rod

Yeah, apparently just having the glasses propped on the top of my head doesn't count. I'm fine thanks chaps. Just had to endure the doctor man scraping my eye -"Now hold still & whatever you do, don't blink, while I stab you in the eye with this needle". Got to squirt antiseptic cream in my eye for a few days, but otherwise fully functional. I can see clearly now. The pain has gone.

And following on......... I am just back from my local A&E. this morning i decided to shift a few of my engines around, I un-bolted a lister D from its trolley and grabbed hold of it, lifted and Ouchhhhhhh. Severe pain in my lower back. I dropped to my knees in agony, one hand supporting the engine that was now balanced on the side of the trolley. Next thing I know, I`m comming round after passing out and the engine has tipped off the trolley, and is resting on its flywheel next to head. F*****g lucky. In total agony, I reached up to get my mobile off the worktop and rang Mrs T who hurried home from work and insisted i attend A&E. 25 mins later I`d just about crawled from the shed to my front door, a distance of 10 feet, I couldn`t even reach up and grab the handle to open the door & Mrs T arrived home & took charge. Turns out i have torn the muscles in my lower back, guess i`m not as young as I used to be!

Phixer on the Britchopper site cut through his arm with a grinder a few weeks back (right through the Ulna Bone I think) I won't try to explain what he was doing but it was bloody stupid and fortunately he got away with it. After three ops and some steel and stitches everything works still.
