Make a male / female adapter for the track rods ends ? Or get track rods that have the correct taper but also th right thread to fit your rack. Standard taper is 1" per 12" ( something like 7.5 degrees ) it's just where on that taper does your's fall? Try Amsteer ,very helpful and at a push can even make tres to suit.
MOT testers have always had the option to fail welded steering parts though it is supposed to be for heat altered standard parts rather than modifications. Check if the servo is holding vacuum as they have a one way valve that can fail. Hang on, are you talking standard Rootes remote unit ? If so they have a nasty habit ( after a million miles or being laid up ) of the internal seals perishing and sucking brake fluid into the vacuum part.

i'll post a pic in a while kev which i think is a way to get me t/rod ends and rack to pass.
servo/cylinder is a ford, fiesta? sierra? will get a pic.
got to sort caster angle out, but was very surprised how well in drives. seems the same as before i altered it. very pleased with that side of things.

Doubt if I would even advise it as it looks normal. If you do have extend steering arms or steering column, always cut the end of the sleeves at 45' so they have more weld area.

Honestly don't see a problem with it , it's not like it's just butt welde ( yup, seen it on road going motors ! )as it's a damn site stronger than the original threaded part only or even more so if you dismantle the rack and look at the small pins that tie it all together internally. For that matter look at a uj and break it down to it's individual parts and the centre cross is usually only about 5-6 mm at the most !

two jobs left on the list, servo and front wheel bearing slightly noisy.
alternator is off, along with servo.
managed to even put a balance pipe in the exhaust.
all trim refitted on o/side and boot.
