maybe someone here can explain this it might not show up that well in the photo but the rainbow was split at the ends and went off in opposite directions i.e. arching up and arching down

Airborne water and ice crystals buddy, probably stirred up by upper level winds, or aircraft movements! Viewed at the correct angle vertically, rather than horizontally like usual! If it was a normal one those ends would be on the ground where it starts!!
