Body tacked back on today. Pretty hard welding the original beetle bits as it’s so old and thin, but the stuff on there is solid.

Job tomorrow is to start on that rear quarter. Made an infull piece like the other side so that will get the side tied into the frame as such and stop it being a bit wobbly, although it is already pretty solid

Crossmember tacked in to the channel and also joined to the other side. Also the infill piece is tacked in too. Body is now much less floppy that it’s joined in on all sides.

Weldings not too pretty but is strong and can be cleaned up. Was getting annoyed with some bits, but some of the repair panels are pretty thin in places so to be expected I guess

I very rarely swear, but inanimate objects get to me every time. I swear in my garage more than anywhere else!

Saw this on the 'net earlier. Really like that rounded arse -using a VW bonnet? Reminds me of mid 40s American Fords.

Not just moulded in bit yeah it’s the engine lid.

Can’t renember where I got to on here. Turned it round, started making a tub section. Horrible horrible welding but strong. Mocked up the outer quarter ready to tack in tomorrow lunch.

I wish I liked them with big fat radials. They’re much cheaper. Need a pair of L78’s or 760/15 plys (ish) fir the back.

Panel cut in and tacked in place. Need to make up a small filler piece.

Still doing stuff every lunch. Front quarter cut out and redone. Also made a piece to tie in the heater channel to the inside of the quarter. It’s funny putting strong bits back in as you can hear the shell creak and pop as it pulls itself into shape.

Or out of shape!
Great to see it progressing now.
Moving it to work was a good idea -as you say, a little bit every day. Smiley

Still doing stuff.

On the rear end there were no shock mounts so a friend machined some up and welded them on.

Smoothed off the bottom door hinge and door handle recess on one of the doors too.

We’ve got a workshop course next week so it’ll have to come out for a few days, but hopefully the bulkhead should be ready by then.
