Put the steering on today and trimmed up the body. Just need to tweak it a bit and then can weld it back on

Tacked the body into place today and cut the bracing out - hurrah! I also gutted half a door to trial it in place and square the body up. I needed to do this so the door would shut - due to the channel/bodydrop the door now shut against the floor pan instead of over it.

Not bad for a first attempt

And then quit while I was ahead. Next up is the other side which isn't so square, so expect that door gap to be waaaaaaaaay off.

Gutted the passenger door to trial fit it in the hole today. Thought it would be a poor fit' but its not too bad which is good. Next up is getting some sheet and starting to make up the firewall' which would make the body properly solid.

Pulled this apart for the first time in a while. Split the Body from the pan to bolt in some new style heater channels and also fit up a a later gearbox which has longer shafts and spacers to try and widen the track on the rear a bit. Pulling the body was interesting as there weren't really enough to get a safe way to take it off, but off and on it came anyhow.

need to pull the body again as on channel needs cutting and rewelding to get straight then, I should be able to stick the body back to the channels and pull it for full welding.

Hey guess what! I’ve still got this.

Welded in the passenger door to get the body straight, then took the shell off to get at the wonky heater channel, which was cut and bent to the right shape and rewelded. Then dropped the body on as square as it would go and welded it to the channels as best as possible (I can’t believe I cut so much out) which = one surprisingly unfloppy beetle.
