Finished up the side window shape today with Pete from work. Again a lot of chops go wrong here as they make the window too small. We’ve actually made the window bigger which has kept the proportions right. Really happy with how that’s come out.

Done the same as the other side. Reshaped the b post we chopped out

Started on one of the doors and trying to hang it etc

I’ve got cast van rear door hinges (not the ones from years ago as they are too small) and have put some strap in the door frame and body of the car. Drilled it and nut and bolted them on (will be captives eventually). Works pretty well, but I need to space out the bottom hinge - the curve of the shell and door means the top hinge shuts before the bottom and causes the side to bend / bottom hinge to top out. Only marginally though so a spacer should cure it.

Looking forward to getting the door back in one piece and stripping it back from all this old paint and rust etc

Ones that’s probably fitted though. Been playing with it today. Hinges are all bolted up and spaced out. Top hinge is now the issue topping out (being closed before the door is fully) so a fiddle tomorrow should hopefully solve it. Then I can weld the nuts in and remake the door inner which might give it a bit of strength again.

Anyone got any bear claw latches they don’t need?

I bought my latches from Pop Browns. They'll have a stall at the Southern swap meet in a few weeks time.

That's cool, may try and find some a bit quicker as the other side door hinges arrived today. I wasn't banking on them being here for a while as the last lot were special order and took near on 3 weeks. I guess they must've ordered a load in for stock.

Spent today's lunch getting the door ready for putting in a strengthener on tomorrows lunch. I also lopped off the door top so it can fit in the hole - this side should be easier to hang as it's still got the original top door hinge in place, so potentially by tomorrow I could have both sides swinging.

Nah. These big jumps are just quick wins. There’s still hours of welding grinding filling to go.

annoying lunch session today

Got the strengthener in the door no problem, but the work welder started acting up, so did a real horrible job on the one in the body. It's kind of on though.

Drilled in one of the hole and bolted up the hinge in one place before running out of time. Currently the work 10mm is stuck on the bolt on the inside of the car, so hopefully no one needs it.

Maybe by monday I'll have 2 swinging doors

Another swinger

77-CB695-B-BD82-4-DA0-B7-A6-5-F3-BB25-CD039" border="0

This one was a bit easier to mount as the original top hinge was still on there. Still needs a bit of adjusting as the bottom hinge is closing before the door is but nowhere near as bad as the other side.

Annoyingly guess I need to buy some latches now. Plenty of free stuff I can do on it but running out quite quickly it would seem!

Mocked up some kit car latches with a handle built in today. Not as nice as bear claws but this is the easiest option. One door that kinda shuts and opens and stays shut. I’ve got to rivnut where they bolt in, but once that’s done I can start to rebuild all the door innards and top frame.
