IDENTIFIEING SIZE OF ENGINE, 600cc identified by a single section number i.e 46387. the 700-750-850 all have a 3 section number i.e 3A/85/45674 the center number identifies the size of engine on 750 and 850 engines, 700= c70 in the third section of the full  number and is in this format i.e --/------/c70  750 is identified by a single number 8 i.e --/8/----- the 850 is identified by 85 i.e --/85/----- the number in the first section of the 700-750-850 engines is the year the engine was built ie 0A/850/58000 the letter followwing the number in section one of the full number is the month the engine was built a= January b= feb and so on so in this example the center number tells you the engine is a 850cc, the number in the first section of the full number tells you the year and the letter following the number tells the month  so this example is a reliant 850cc engine built in jan 1980 the numbers in the third section of 750 and 850 represents engines built  on 700 engines it in the middle

just to stop any confustion about the year, for some reason i could not add any more to the above, the third section of the full number ie --/--/ 58000 you can work out the decade for 70s and 80s any number above 58000 for the 850cc is 80s to a point, anything below 58000 is 70s to a point, ie 57999 would be 1979 the numbers tell you when the engine was built and not when the car was regestered. numbers 87307 is 1990 so this number and above takes you in to the 90s 94490 is nov 1999.the first unleaded head was introduced in 1990 at engine number 9L/85/87143 so any numbers after this have unleaded heads
