Unless the wording has changed it has to lock all wheels on the axle it is fitted to. Think that may be a problem unless you have a fancy main stand Wink

i recently finished my xj900 trike bolt on conversion and the handbrake locking both wheels depends on the weight of the trike,as mine is only 280kg my handbrake only had to lock the one wheel. The MOT tester told me if it was over 440kg(i think it was) then it has to lock both wheels on the axle hope this helps

hi there sportbilly2,that's quiet intresting as a few years ago i took a trike for mot to my local tester, and when testing the brakes they only just locked up but i remember him saying if they hadn't locked up he would still have passed it,it was a long time ago and i cant recall exactly what was said on the subject at the time except it was something to do with the weight of the trike, although producing a weight certificate is not a must for mot, and i have heard this question asked on hear before,my tester always asked for one, but doesn't insist and i always have one at hand when i take a trike for mot the resson  he asks for one is because it gives him a guide to calibrate or (set up the machine) (or rollers) for testing the trikes brakes,i believe trikes fall in to different weight categories and think the lower one is up to 350kg so if i took a trike that weighed in at 220kg for mot with out a weight certificate i may have a fail on the brakes because the brakes were tested say as a 350kg put could have passed at 220kg by producing a weight certificate, this is in my experience of taking trikes for mot. i think some times when questions are asked  its not clear if its for mot or msva, also diffrent mot tester do use there discretion on what they will let go and and what they wont,   just wondered if you had any pics of your build i ask out of intrest as there is a good chance that in the new year my self and newbie ganasher (go back a long way) maybe and it is a maybe at the moment teaming up to do a project  and the xj is the bike at the top of our list at the moment.  thank you for your input sportbilly. all the best zak
