DEUCE OF SPADES

I was lucky enough to go to the world premiere of the new hot rod film, 'Deuce of Spades' last weekend which might interest a few people here. I've not written a review of it yet, but it's available on DVD and you can see some pics from the premiere on the BSH blog and get the link to the movie's web site here -

(Sorry to post a link, Manky, but you know I'm too lazy to repost the pics individually!)

I enjoyed it, but it was a bit too long and Faith Granger is a far better director and cinematographer than she is an actress...
But to put together a feature-length movie on absolutely no budget and very little experience is one helluva achievement and it's a very impressive result. There's one or two of the cast (like Alexandra Holder, who played the female lead, Bettie) who deserve to go far. The premiere day was great - the centre of Fillmore was like something out of Back To The Future and quite a number of people did throw themselves into the spirit of the day and dressed in period clothing.

Must admit the relentless self publicising & calls for freebies & contributions on various forums got kinda irritating, but you've got to admire the achievement.
I know British auto journalist Keith Harman's selling DVD copies of the film, but I haven't found anyone else who's actually seen it yet.
As Loony remarked the other day, the best car/bike films usually have the lamest acting -it's all about the vehicles.

It's a bit of a mix of performances; some are pretty good, some are weaker. To be honest, Faith gets annoying after a while - she isn't an actress, and she's also unfeasibly proud of her legs (there's a couple of bits of her sliding under the 32 in a tiny red outfit to 'fix the fuel pump' in scenes that have no relationship or bearing on the narrative) as well as her backside. After a while, we were just counting the gratuitous shots of her bum!

An email from keith:
Hi Manky!
I heard that I had been mentioned on your online forum regarding the film. I am indeed importing the DVD and it’s available to buy online via Paypal as well as some other merchandise plus other exclusive hot rod DVD’s and T-shirts.
It’s all on the link below.
Cheers!

He is indeed omnipresent -as we find when we regularly get in the way of his professional type shots at car shows.
