Hi all,
i have a question regarding my reliant axle as fitted to my cbx 1000z trike, she has a chain conversion done i fitted a new sprocket to get the right gearing and all was fine however starting to use her more now and looking down on the top of the axle diff box where my chain exits the diff it seems to have moved, it was quite central in the exit hole, is there any logical reason for this side wards movment of the sprocket, i dont know the ins and outs of how the diffrential works inside the diff box.
is the any experts in the gloucestershire area that would help me out can and will pay !!!!!!!!!

thanks all
kind regards Phill

that looks very very lovely sorry I can`t help with your problem, coz I would say it shouldn`t move sideways at all, but then I might be wrong.

Hey.. arn't you winning trike of the month over on Uk triker Huh

anyway.. when you changed the sproket, was it the engine sproket or the diff sproket Huh

if it was the diff sproket somthing may not have gone back to gether... or more force being applied may have cause the axle to move slightly... ( can't see from the pic )

Hi Guys thanks for the replies so far, i did change front and rear sprockets and get them linned up spot on, but i did have to dismantle the whole thing,
i shall be selling the trike soon so want it to be faultless for the new owner hence trying to sort it out, but have no idea how the thing works , so guess i will have to strip it ,

Anyway yes it is on another trike site up for trike of the month and winning so far !!!!!!!!!!

Hi .looking at the photos i would not have thought the axle had moved
do the chain look as if it lines up with with both sprockets
can you not see into the axle cut out to see if the sprocket has moved
it might just be settlement
that looks a wide chain is the sprocket suited for it.the chain is not sliding across on it
still it looks nice why are you selling it

here are some photos the red line should be where you sprocket is unless you put spacers in

I'd go with the axle moving too, rather than the sprocket inside it -seems more likely to me.
I add a small upright locating tab to the end of each axle clamp, which bolts to a corresponding one on the axle tube. Stops any sideways movement in the clamps. I guess you'd be able to see damaged paint around the clamps if that were the case.
Lovely trike Phil. Any chance of a write-up for the site?

Hi All,
thanks again for the advice guys,
i know that the swinging arm is all good and solid so no movment there, the swinging arm construction again is totally solid and all ok, the axle as it clamps to the swinging arm is all good and cannot move as the rear half of the axle clamps are welded to the axle tubes so cant twist or move anywhere, and the other halves are bolted to them so just not possible,
the sprocket is bolted to the plate where the crown wheel went and that is all solid as well.

so the problem as i see it can only be inside the diff unit somthing has slipped or moved etc, just need to get it off and to someone quite local to split it and tell me whats wrong.

as for listing of the build , here goes

she is a 1979 honda cbx1000z, she had been stood for 8 years until i bourght her i managed to get her running eventurally,
the front end is from a honda cbr1100xxx i got the complete front end whell, yokes, disc, brakes all attached, so knocked out the stem and welded the cbx1000z standard one in and worked perfectly,
i had the rearswinging arm fabricated from new steel by my mate a proffessional welder and he made a great job, the axle is reliant with vw golf gti disc and calipers, using twin cbr600 slave cylinders side by side to work the rear brakes as one didnt push enough fluid through, the rear shocks are kawasaki zepher as these are 3 way adjustable, a 60 profile new tyre was fitted to the front to give a bigger footprint and stop any possible steering wobbles, it works, rear wheels are 17 inch fox racing wheels which i got off ebay for 99p each, yep true, exhaust system is stock down pipes leading to twin termigonis she sounds like a V8, the rear top shock mounts have been extended and strengthened also helps to fill out the void area which ruins a trkes rear end, because at the end of the day mine is still just a bolt on rear end,
if you want any pics just ask,
i shall try to take some close ups of the problem area i have and post to give you lot some better clues.
anyway thanks again al i apprecitate all the help and suggestions
Kind regards Phill

if the axle moves surely that would not alter where the chain comes out of the diff housing.
for the chain to look as if its in a different position it would have to be moving inside the axle
which would be the diff bearings gone. sprocket moved or chain gone slack

Real nice looking trike, BUT put the back tyres on the right sides (They are going the wrong way and you could aqua plane in the wet) (First picture they are right, the others wrong.)

well spotted mate ,yes i knew that i had to put them on to move it, so didnt matter, but thanks anyway.
anyway today i thought i would have a good look at it a stuck a screwdriver in the gap and tried to push the sprocket and whatever it sits on sidewards to see if it moved and i was able to move it easy so i can now see the problem , it moves / slides on something inside and it shoul;dnt ,
so i now need to find out how it sits in there and see whats missing poss spacers but im sure it all went back the same,
but anyway i have to strip it and sort it out now, i guess the crown wheel inside which my sprocket is bolted to should not slide at all ?
thanks again for all the help guys, much appreciated
