Spent the afternoon today at Loony's workshop, working on my truck. Saturdays tend to be open house for various local petrolheads & all kinds of vehicles & people roll in.
Today the local V Dub boys were there. Alex owns this Golf. He's on a mission to get it as low as humanly possible, starting with the wheels & working his way up, (he & Loony are planning some serious under-body surgery over the Winter). It's pretty radical for a daily driver, with stripped out interior, & a VW Polo engine transplant, fitted with a bank of R6 bike carbs. Loony took the pics on my camera but ommitted to lift the bonnet so no engine shots I'm afraid. The mis matched wing is part of a current fad for taking one section of the car & giving it a completely different treatment to the rest. Some guys strip the paint off a bonnet or tailgate & allow it to rust. Others might paint the roof in ultra blingy metalflake -that sort of stuff.
Check out the wheels! Wide rims with narrower tyres stretched as far as possible to cover them. The aim is to fit wide wheels but keep the actual tread of the tyre within the body line as the law demands. It's a weird look that takes a lot of effort but just screams dangerous to me -& presumably to the traffic cops too. Not many tyre shops will do this.
Must admit it's not my kind of thing, but ya gotta admire their youthful enthusiasm. I guess modern hatchbacks offer much less scope for modifying than the cars of my teenage years. Odd to watch he & Archie leaving in a cachophy of scraping under carriages. Them crazy kids!

I used to have a brown VW with one red wing - I was obviously ahead of my time!

Hey, you're a trend setter Bobbi!  Cool
I'm told by those that know these things that the tyres are safe -they just don't look it. My objections are more style based.
Also not sure about the excessive lowering -the front sub frame's already been replaced once after continual ground scraping shaved off the mounts.
I guess you've got to suffer for your art.  Tongue
