Hi all you Manky Monkey's

Have been viewing your forum getting loads of advice for about 4 months now,and think the tips and advice given are great,have got a problem with my pump diaphragm, first off trike not built by me but brought of E bay have been changing the bits not liked,it's based on reliant rialto 848cc engine and running gear.will post pic's later,anyway to get to my quesion. Has anyone got any idea if fuel pump diaphragms can still be brought and if so where?. If not has anyone ever blanked of fuel pump inlet and fitted low pressure 12v pump.

Welcome to Mankydom. Not sure if you can buy the diaphragms seperately. You can certainly buy new fuel pumps. I always recommend Michaels of Selby, (their details are in the Links for Commercial Purposes section of the forum. Very helpful & knowledgable guys & fast mail order -tell 'em we sent you.  Wink  ). I bought a new pump from them a couple of years ago. Think it was about 30 quid.
I blanked the mechanical pump on my red Special Delivery Reliant trike

& fitted a "Facet" electric one. Worked O.K, but was high flow & tended to try to force feed the carb, leading to leaks all over the place. It also kept sticking, meaning I'd have to pull over & give it a whack wiv a 'ammer to free it again.
Some guys have tried removing the pump altogether & relying on gravity feed. I think Triker Pete did. If I remember right his Reliant used to run out of puff on steep hills or under load though.
A good condition mechanical pump is probably as good as anything.

I ran my Honda "V" twin engined trike with a Facet pump from Demon Tweeks, and whilst it would make the Honda orig. CV float chambers flood, it was fine with the SU float chamber that I installed as a  'weir' type float/buffer chamber, however,I agree with Mr. M, why re-invevent the wheel! stick with a Mech. pump as per orig. spec. 'you know it makes sense',and it works!!..... Morrag

would love to stick with mech pump if i can find diaphragm for it, or find a new pump of same type,e.g screw in unions not push on pipe type as(this is what I've been told)not a straight swop.

Give Michaels a ring. The one I bought from them was a universal replacement -not identical to the original one but fitted all models. As well as new parts, they also break the occasional Reliant for spares, so might have a good condition old one.

The fuel pumps are interchangable but it does involve replacing the mounting studs with longer ones as the flanges on the pumps differ in thickness.
If you get stuck, i think i have an old pump with screw on connections somewhere, so let me know, although i wont be around for the next 7 days or so, so it wont be quick.

I got new pump parts from Burlem Fuels, they are online. Think they called it a Bedford something not a Reliant though Wink
