If you go to Brighton on an organised run (usually on a Sunday), the park-up is often along Madeira Drive (the road to the left of the pier), and most of the day’s photos are of parked-up machinery, so how about something a little different for a day out???
Maybe seeing a bike doing the standing start quarter mile along Madeira Drive in under 9 seconds at over 160mph?
So what will the 2011 event bring? Well if you pop along you'll find out. Cars & motorcycles (around 250 entrants), practice from about 09:00, timed runs from about 11:30.
The entry fee lets you wander around the paddock and the 'spectator's shelf' (a sort of elevated promenade that runs the length of the strip so you can be right at the start or down the 'fast end'), but if the money’s tight, you can stand on the top road and peer down for free, and yes, it IS on a Saturday.
THE FIRST OF THE FOLLOWING MESSAGES ARE WITH RESPECT TO THE 2010 EVENT (to give an idea of what its all about

Just in case anyone wants to put it in their diary, thought I’d ‘refresh’ the Brighton Speed Trials topic as its only a few weeks till Madeira Drive holds yet another Speed Trials (the first was run in 1905) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AoHPOCM-Qchttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFZNLGR-DLw&feature=relatedIts not often you can see a bike legally doing over 160mph along the seafront!

Unfortunately I have to work on Saturdays, so won't be able to go, but I'd love to see it some day. As always, your photos would be appreciated Tony. The main site's still offline, but we hope to get it sorted soon & catch up with the events photo galleries.

The list of riders/bikes that are due to run the 2010 event is now available form the VMCC Sprint Section website. http://www.vmccsprint.co.uk/vintage_classic_modern_motorcycle_sprint_racing/Welcome.htmlThese range from a 1928 Douglas up to Turbo Hyabusas. If you look at the bike photos on this site, you’ll see Andy’s Triumph, he’s # 308 this year. http://www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk/Bikespageimages/andyssprintbike/words.html2010 - I should be # 347 on a 70’s XS650. Pop along and say hello….. Car entry list is from the organisers of the whole event, The Brighton and Hove Motor Club. http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co.uk/speedtrials_2010.php

Some photos, courtesy of Tony Oily Bike, of Saturday's trials. Nice pics as always Tone. He writes:
Here ya go, some pics from Saturday's Speed Trials for the website. A bit below par shots I'm afraid as took the tiny camera, and as riding, didn't get to do the start line shots, still, it'll give a flavour. Unfortunately Sat was a bit overcast with the odd bit of drizzle thrown into the pot. The first shot were when we arrived (about 6:30) and shows a rather deserted, apart from the petrol heads, Brighton. The Dodge I recognised as I've seen it parked outside North American Motor Co in Farnborough, I think it has great presence. The owner's only has it about 3 months and says its rather rare, must admit I'm not aware of seeing one before. mmm nice!

Of course Tony. As soon as we've got the photo galleries fully operational again we'll post as many shots as you have.
