Well, I admit that my mobile is essential, but I still have huge problems each time I upgrade because the spotty oiks in the shop can't get their heads round the fact that I don't want a bloody camera, I don't want loads of stupid ringtones, I don't want games, I don't want sodding predictive sodding texting and I don't want bubblegum colours, but I DO want loads of battery life, a huge address book and web access.

Trouble is, most mobiles are aimed at teenagers. Siemens used to do a 'business' range which was exactly what I wanted.

Ha! I am not alone! I use mine a lot but still don't like the things.
My sister's emigrating to Canada soon, so we'll be getting SKYPE, the internet based free phone system. Lots of scope there for major hassles!

SKYPE? sounds like a medieval disease to me.

Took my 89 quid Samsung back for a refund yesterday. It came with 40 quids worth of free credit. They deducted that & gave me back 49 quid. So it's not actually free credit. It's a 49 quid phone & they're conning you into buying 40 quid of airtime.

The new "improved" one had a camera, but not a megapixel one, so the photos aren't good enough for website use, which is the only reason I was going for a camera one, plus there's no facility to download the fuzzy piccies to a computer anyway. The shutter button is on the outside of the phone, doesn't have a lock & can be activated with the phone shut. Every time I move the damn thing goes off. I've deleted a dozen photos of the inside of my pocket today.
The volume control's on the outside too. Every time I move it turns itself down so I can't hear it ring. It switches to answerphone almost immediately; there's no Call Back facility so I have to cut & paste numbers into the Message bit, (missed 2 calls today); when I tried to answer a call from Ska Man I ended up talking to a driving instructor in York! it's twice the size & weight of my old phone; I use a phone case with a belt clip cos my uniform trouser pockets are quite big & I'd lose it -the new case has a plastic cover over the screen that renders it unreadable in daylight; it takes 2 hands to open it; it's got bloody silly ringtones -which I can't hear anyway.
Don't want an all singing, all dancing toy,

Erm - may one ask why you chose this one then?

Smiley Thought it'd be easy to use cos it's the same make as my old one -just an updated version. Spoken to several people since though who say they've tried new phones & preferred their old ones. The only reason I was changing was cos the screen kept going blank & I thought it was about to die on me -but it's been fine ever since!

I spect the SIM card was loose - and by swopping it over and then replacing it you've sorted that - I've had that problem when I dropped mine once.

Mine gets dropped, sat on, stood on, covered in grinding dust, sprayed with welding sparks, soaked in the rain, I've even dropped it out of a first floor window while cleaning the glass in my flat. I'm amazed it still works at all.
