I had a go on the search function but coldn't find anything

Apparently for the reble racing card they use Reliant engines and they mod the inlet manifold and use a weber 34 ICH carb for more power.

Has anyone upgreaded there carb's on a reliant engine to a weber carb?
Has anyone dose this manifold mod as well?

Several people have spoken of porting the inlet manifold, (opening it out a little internally), for better mixture flow, but I've never met anyone who's actually done it, so not sure how much you'd gain from it.
The Webber from a mark 1 Ford Fiesta is the one to go for apparently -probably the one you've mentioned. Again, I've heard of it, but never seen it done. A bank of 4 bike carbs would be an interesting mod too -often used on kit cars for better tuning.
You fancy giving it a go then?

Unless you intend to rebuild the motor to a good standard, and include the obvious mods to increase power,i.e Increased comp. ratio, flowed head, and longer dwell cam, just playing with the carburation will show little benefit over the already efficient S.U.when suitably jetted,  Morrag

My last Reliant engine was tuned by a guy called Tom Airey in Cheriton, Hants. He was an ex grass track racer who tuned motors on his own rolling road in his shed. I took the trike there in a state of total de-tune. Hardly any power at all. Half an hours tweaking added 30mph to the top speed. Simple tuning mods can make a hell of a difference, without any major rebuilding.

Well Mr. M, as I stated, I assumed a motor in good standard order to start with,hence the requirement to screw it back together properly, as if you achieved a + 30mph improvement by simply putting on a rolling road and minor tuning, it must have been very poorly set up to start with! the answwr is to always ensure you have any motor set up to achieve the design standard, prior to fettling, which i suppose states the obvious,....Morrag

I'll quite happily admit I'm cr*p at setting engines up. It was running but not at all well. He changed the grade of plugs, advanced the timing I think, blanked off the vaccuum feed to the advance/retard unit & filed the carb needle a little. I watched him do that then saw the difference it made on the gauges afterwards.
That's amazing that 30 seconds filing can improve it so much.
-It ain't the 30 seconds filing, it's the 30 years experience beforehand that does it.

my mate had a go at porting a head on his bike but it ran like a bog of bolts after he did it . he soon change it back to standard.

You are both right of course, its the old adage, Mechanics Bill.." £1-00 for use of hammer, £1-00 for knowing where to hit it!" .You never try and increase performance over standard on a worn out motor. You can't learn how to fettle a motor from a book! Like "Dirty Harry" says, "know your limitations". So get what you have got right as a starting point first, worry about exotic carburettors etc. when its as good as you can get the standard product, you will save yourself grief and money, believe me...Morrag

Worth checking the r3w (reliant 3 wheeler) site lots of info on reliants there
I have a weber 34 ich brand new to fit to my trike bought it from there was origionally for a fiesta
jets should be pretty close
also there are several links about engine tuning incl porting
