Yep they look like thrust washer....Buy any decent VW mag and there are plenty of shops listed in them for complete motors...ive had a few Thurrock big bore motors over the years in various projects...with Vw's its all about how much you want to spend on it......You can do a full rebuild cheap enough as all the parts are easy to obtain...If you want to give it a bit of grunt upgrade everything, new heads, stick in Scatt cams, 009 dizzy, blue flame coil and get a decent set of twin carbs...then all the other associated bit and bobs...Ive got a few VW tuning books in my loft I will dig out soon that might be of some help...Voodoo...

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies, unfortunately I've got to wait till next weekend before I get chance to pull the engine out and start to strip down...
I looked over a engine diagram and thought it looked like a rocker thrust washer but didn't think it would be able to get right round to the oil strainer.
We want to rebuild the engine if possible as its the original one and weirdly it has full history till last year.
Hope the mains are ok,don't fancy going into it that deeply.
