I'll see how it runs(when I solve the starting probs!)Could be valve stem oil seals creating smoke.
if youve got ,, smoke,, out of the filter ,and starting problems it sounds like you have a timimng problem
i do quite alot with old engine,s that have been stood for years (vintage tractors and the like ) and find that with most once they have run again and got up to tempreture they settle down and run o,k
its normally rings,, valve,s etc that get sticky/gummend up.. reliant cylinder liners very rarely need renewing unleess the gudgeon pin circlip has let go and scored the bore.
ive rebuilt quite a few over the years had more trouble with crankshafts than any other engine part
