Scottish Highlands? Lake District? Welsh forests? Nope, South West London, yesterday afternoon. Taz & I were at a hotrod meet in West London in the morning, then went on to a Polish bikers' day at the Ace Cafe, North London, in the afternoon. We tried a change of route on our way home to Guildford & cut across Richmond deer park. Never been there before. What a beautiful place. We have green parakeets living wild on the country estate we live on. On a good day we get half a dozen in our garden & consider ourselves pretty lucky to see them. Richmond's swarming with the damn things. Hundreds of them screeching in the treetops. And deer, suprisingly enough, as it's a deer park. They may be quite tame & used to half of London traipsing through their woods, but it's still a real thrill to come across a family group in a clearing in the trees. Taz donned her nature photographer's hat to go stalk them. Could've done with a hard hat instead though. As we crept through the undergrowth we found it was a forest of horse chestnut trees -we knew that cos they were raining down on us. Lucky we didn't get knocked on the noggin by a wayward conker. Nice antlers.

Saw a deer and two red scwirrels this morning When I lived in Farnham surrey they used to come in our garden along with a Badger we used to feed peanutbutter sandwiches to.

I once bumped into a deer as I walked along a country lane in the dark. Not sure who was more terrified. Would love to have badgers in the garden, but the rest of the wildlife we get destroy the place enough as it is. Are peanut butter sandwiches a regular food source for them then? Never heard that on NatureWatch.

Wow that would be sooo cool. There is a hotel in Wales that I've been to and they feed the Badgers where the customers can watch and they get Foxes come and eat too. They feed them all the left overs from the kitchen but also give them peanut butter on toast and boiled spuds. They used to put meat down but it caused so many problems and they put a stop to it whan a local wild cat brought her kittens for supper and the local fox then dined on the kittens right in front of a full room of customers and their young children. Oops.
