Exhaust wrap..........

Never used it before. Going to use it to wrap the down pipe from manifold to bellhousing area as it swoops under  the g/box.Two reasons...
 1) will be a heat shield for my leg
 2) Want to cover this area of pipe ,as it is mild steel ,and will look a bit shabby due to the cut n' shut and welding needed for it to travel a torturous tight route to clear the clutch operating rod.
 Is it worth the effort/cost,or will it look tatty after a short time ?
 What sort of life span has it got?
 Any tips on applying the wrap?

I got mine from fleebay as it did not come with any clips and did not cost a fortune (Will try to find the link later)
Start from the top and work your way to the back, I only used one jubblee click per side, (V8 collectors)use cloves as it fiberglsss and like roof lagging it makes you itch like hell.
Mines been on for about 4 years now and other than where it been rubbing the body is still good, I did spray it black last year as the exhaust was looking shabby, still looks good.

I've used it to hide mild steel pipwork, its practical & comes in a range of colours

We used it on Flap's trike. He sprayed it black cos it looked way too bright in the standard creamy white colour, but as Watsonic says, you can buy it in several colours. Not cheap, but Flap found some cheap-ish on Ebay. The ends have frayed a bit where the jubilee clips were fitted half an inch from the end of the bandage, but otherwise not too bad.
I've seen a rod with the bandage secured by tightly coiled copper wire, all the way down the pipe, with the coils spaced about 2 inches apart. That looked cool.

Did not think about soaking it, would have stopped it from itching so much, what Mankey said about the ends, I just folded the ends back about a inch before I put the clip on.

Cheapest Ive seen is on the merlin motorsports site. Well,cheapest for me ,as I worked out I dont need a huge amount! What Ive decided is to build a heat shield out of stainless,make it look good with the 'drilled out ' look and see what its like and how much of the pipe you can see behind it.Will go for the wrap if not.From about the eng/bellhousing join Im going into stainless,similar to Andys pipes.When I built the chassis and fitted the g/box x-member,I had the idea the pipe would have to flick up some where in front of it,due to ground clearance issues if the silencer exited under the axle.
