Take a seat everyone......

My poor old b**ch spends all her time outside and in all weathers, consequently its taken its toll on the seats, so its time to do something about it.
This shouldn`t entail making new seats from scratch, more of a spruce up.

First thing to do is remove the seat, mine are held by a couple of bolts so its an easy job to get them off.
Then i can simply pull the back cover off, this is a plain piece of cloth, very tatty n a poor finish to what otherwise was a nice job. See! its let the water through and started to rust the seat back. The cover itsself isn`t leather, but a plastic copy and i must say is well made but it is easily removed owing to the fact that its glued in place on the rear of the seat back rest.

Running around the edge of the seat is some rubber edging strip, this is used to protect the cover from the otherwise sharp edge.
Once thats pulled off, it leaves the metal seat covered in foam. Now the foam isn`t the stuff you`ll find inside the cushions of your sofa, its thick density stuff which simply means it doesn`t compress as much when weight is applied to it. If you ever need to replace it or source some for a new build, then your local camping shop is the place to go cos its the same stuff they make bed roll out of. Had i made this seat, i would not have used a single thick piece, but would have built the thickness up using several layers of thinner stuff, but this isn`t a seat build thread  .

There`s a lot of surface rust on the metal and some heavier patches too, so i sand it back all over to get most of it off, then finish off by applying a coat of rust inhibitor.
Now i have to leave it for the foam to completely dry out.

Having found a suitable patch, i layed it over the top of the back rest then cut two triangular shapes where i needed to curve it round the seat.

then its glued in place over the original cover.
