Kill switch wiring..........

How does the kill switch work on a bike? Breaks contact between ign switch and coil? Earths out said wire? Does the contact only break for as long as you hold it ,or does it go thro' a relay of some sort? Or am I completely wrong?
Thanks.....

Live feed through the kill switch to the + side of the coil
When the switch is turned on it permanently breaks the circuit.
I used the same thing as an anti theft device on my old cortina, was brilliant for scaring old folk in the highstreet. I`d cruise along then hit the switch, engine dies, hit the switch again and it would give a huge backfire as she fired into life again
Check out the basic wiring diagram on the main site, or the modified reliant one in the tech section

I'm thinking its a good idea to save having to lean down to turn of ignition in case of an emergency!

Its nice for any switches to work though innit
I added the wires to the kill switch and left them looped for future use. Was thinking if I went with one of those flip arming push button starters the kill switch would suit. More importantly, on my outfits it used to be a laugh hitting the kill switch, twist the throttle then switching it back on again and watching people jump. I have been advised that it would most likely be suicide to try this with a reliant lump though

Dragging this up again.................!
I want to use the existing kill switch on the bars.Am I seeing this correct? If wired as TB said, the live feed (ign to coil wire) is constantly running thro' the switch, until it is activated ,which breaks the contact .Is this the way bikes are wired ,or on a bike does the switch activate a relay, which handles the power?
