Teetering on the edge of insanity

« on: May 03, 2009, 07:58:27 AM »

Had to post this here, although a bit expensive to get in this Castle and it's grounds are without a doubt one of the best I have been to. just the first room was enough for me, lined with pistols and cutlasses you can't help but be impressed.

Had to borrow a picture fron the Culzean site as your not allowed to take photo's inside the castle, I'm sure they won't mind.

Over 700 flintlock pistols and they wouldn't let me have 1 of them (I did ask)

Sheesh! You can tell I'm not a war-mongering type -my first thought was I wonder who has to dust that lot.  Smiley
Where did they find so many pistols? What's the significance of the propellor on the ceiling? Must be a couple of hundred years later than the guns & canons.
There's literally hundreds of castles in Scotland. They're more like fortified houses , rather than military posts & some of them are truly beautiful. An American once asked the secret of their immaculate lawns & was told Take any old bit of land & any old grass seed, then mow it & roll it for 400 years.
My favourite's still Eilean Donan on the shores of Loch Duich. It's the one you always see on biscuit tin lids. I'd love to take the trike up that way one day.

To be honest I only noticed the propeller in that photo, was far too busy looking at all the guns to be looking at the ceiling.

Those gardens are beautiful. Love the pagoda. Same place as the garden?

Ive been there a few times, its an amazeing place to wander around as you seem to spot something you missed last time there with each new visit....As Manky knows froma previous chat we had, my lot were from Scotland many many years ago and they owned a fair sized plot of land and an Estate, I have the option of useing my Scottish title (I am a Laird) but only tend to use it when we want a decent table at a restaurant or a flight upgrade, but I do the English bit and Call myself a Lord, boy are the shocked when a group of scruffy bikers turn up lol...Voodoo.....
