Its not too bad. I have been chain drilling it.
I did try a jigsaw but it was snagging when the ally got hot & expanded.

Bit of advice wanted.
Would it be over-kill to mount the engine & gearbox in a subframe to keep it all rigid?
I'm going to be holding them together with long 14mm dia rods between the ally plates, and was just wondering about the subframe.

I also had this spacesaver wheel in the shed. Its 15 inch dia, the same as the VW Beetle wheels I am going to be using on the back. With a bit of luck a bug tyre will fit this rim.
I had a spare Honda CX500 rear wheel hanging about, and I ground out the rivets holding the hub in.
Luckily the spindle hole is 15mm dia, matching a spindle I had made up.
I used a hack saw to cut a lip off the hub, so I can bolt on a piece of 10mm ally plate to use as an adaptor.

The pictured wheel will be used on the front with the cx hub attached via the 10mm ali plate?
Back to your question...I wouln`t have thought it neccassary to use a subframe, i`d have thought the rods will be more than enough.

Thanks both of you.
The subframe idea was a bit over the top. I'm just worried it might come apart.

Now I have been aiming at using a Piggy box & axle, but I also have a Sierra diff/chain conversion. It's been driving me round the bend deciding what to do.
I have put a lot of effort into the VW/piggy conversion, but it would be a lot easier to use the VW box with a big sprocket on it. To save on a long chain run, and lining it up, I would need to put in a jackshaft, which means two chains.
What do you lot think. Feel free to call me names, as they could'nt be as bad as the ones I have been calling myself.

Sounds to me like someone needs to build another frame and DO BOTH  Grin.
Hmmm i think at this stage and bearing in mind all the work you`ve done so far, i carry on with the VW/Piggy. Put that sierra diff up on a shelf until next year, then you`ll have something else to play with when its too wet to be riding the VW/Pig.  Wink
