This one did'nt take half as long to strip. It had probably been taken apart recently.

Pry the side plates off and a big old diff falls out.

Which leaves the drive shaft and a sliding bit with gear, held in with a curclip which is a b*tch to get off if you don't have the correct tool.

Once you have got the nosey dog out of the way, and broken off/removed the clip, you can slide back the gear off the splines.

This allows you to unscrew the shaft from the threaded pin and pull it out of the front of the bellhousing.

Scorio!!!

The od of the VW sliding bit, the od of the Reliant clutch centre I have left, and the id of a bit of tube I have here are all 28mm, so I will be able to get it done without any machining or having to outsource it.

I wish I had taken the time to check before, as it would have stopped me pulling my hair out.
It's all a learning curve I spose.

Thats a bit of good luck, the diameters all matching, not having a goat!. Think less in terms of hair pulling and more of pioneering the way for others to follow  Wink

I just bought a piece of 12 x 16 inch, 8mm ally plate today. When I find the bit of round bar ally I left somewhere I will mark out a spacer for the gearbox.

There has been a bit of a gap while I waited for my mate to sort this out with his lathe.
He squared the ends of the pipe, machined mankey's clutch centre, and migged it together for me so it did'nt distort like the last one.

Here it is fitted onto the gearbox splines. The red broken line is where it will be cut (hopefully).

And here is the VW shaft, which will be poked into the tube and migged once I have worked out the correct measurements.
Got to cut up the two ally plates and drill them all out next.

Worth spending the time to get it right isn't it. As TB says, you're putting in the hard work & head scratching for others to refer to later. Interesting build.
