Rev Counter. . . . . Taco. . . . . . Call it what you will

Hi all 

Can a rev counter designed for a 4 cylinder bike (GSXR750 / 1100) be used on a 2 cylinder engine (virago)

I'm presuming that it will take a pulse from the coils and in this case probably won't work 

I am aware of after market custom rev counters but as I already have the GSXR750 / 1100 unit I thought I'd ask the question

Any ideas??

I would doubt it, most artermarket tachos have some way of selecting the amount of cylinders on cars, not so sure on the bike ones but i can't imagine they would be a lot different

Well, it depends which direction your looking in, if you see what I mean, as the Honda CX/GL "V" Twin engines use a mechanical Rev. counter, and its callibrated to the output Tacho. gear ratios of that particular engine. If you were to use an electronic Rev. counter, then it counts pulses from an engine mounted transponder, so once more it would have to be calibrated to suit the configuration it was to be used on, IE. 4 or 2 cylinders, with the RPM range factored in, can be tricky if you dont use matching bits, anyway, goodluck, as on my "V" Twin Honda, I just junked the 'iffy' rev. counter, as who needs to know the revs. of a 'cooking' V twin anyway!!!
