Posted on Steve's behalf:
Hi, just got myself this axle, but I think I have a problem with it. When turning (A), either clockwise or anti-clockwise (B) rotates slower than (C). Also there's no resistance whilst holding (B) or (C) and turning (A). I don't know a great deal about axles but I think this is shot away. Please could anyone give me some information. Thank you. -Steve.

Sounds like it's working just like it was designed to! Because it's not in contact with the road it will behave like that. If you have some wheels put them on it put it on the floor and then rotate the prop and it should move as you would expect! Nowt to worry about me thinks

Exactly what I'd already said to Steve in an email, but always good to have a second, third & fourth opinion!

It's an odd thing a differential especially when it's on a bench. Has confused the hell outta many people!
Anyhow that the whole point of the forum. We all have knowledge, skills or other things to offer and through thjis place we get the help/advice when needed.
Brill, innit!

I said that to Steve too. Never quite understood the workings of differentials. We're like a lending library of knowledge here.

Not that I'm one of those shy ones, but I thought my axle was kna?!erd because it was doing that. Just hav'nt got round to asking yet. Still removing the brackets. But thanks for the answer anyway.

So I said to God, "If this is it (life), you can keep it." And God said, "Just be glad you got the heart by-passes in time. I don,t normally give refunds".

Then there's the upside-down thing - I'm always surprised when I speak to someone who doesn't know about that! (only cos I do, and I don't often know stuff that others don't!)

I actually did it with the first trike I built. Yam XS750 engine, Reliant axle, very carefully narrowed, one side more than the other to keep the prop aligned with the engine. Fired it up ...5 reverse gears. Bugger.

I may have posted this before, but after a gearbox rebuild, I once owned the only Morris Minor in the world that would engage 1st gear and reverse at the same time! And 2nd gear and reverse, and 3rd........ well you get the picture.......
