Just been out to fire up the bike to go visit Rainbow down in Southampton, all togged up in my winter riding gear. Bloomin' bike won't start! Bugger! It's been sat outside my flat in the cold all week unused & the battery's too sluggish to turn it over. Bugger, bugger. Why did they stop fitting kickstarts?!
Think I need one of those booster/jump start pack thingies. I've heard you shouldn't use them with electronic ignition units though. Anyone want to buy a Honda? Lovely bike. Usually very reliable, just hasn't been used for a while. Very bland though. Boring. Starting to wish I'd kept my Speed Triple.

Aaaaww!  know just how you feel as my car wouldn't start Sunday.

Not use a booster start thingy with electronic ignition?  But everything has electronic ignition nowadays!  Even my ancient Superdream!

Bike ran fine once I'd finally got it started. Without a kickstart there's little you can do but just keep forlornly hitting the Start button & fiddling with the choke. Too heavy to bump start by myself. Left it for half an hour, tried it again & the battery had recovered enought to fire it up. I was told jump starting bikes with CDI units can fry the circuits due to power surge. No idea if that's right or not. Tempted to buy a booster thingy anyway & risk it.

Someone told me that when jump-starting a bike, instead of attaching both the clips to the battery, it's better to attch the negative one to the bike frame.

This is definitely an easier way to do it, but I was told it helps to prevent too much current going thru.  Can't really see why but then I have only a very basic understanding of electrics.

Stevie's been trying to fit an LED rear light to his Triumph chop, but couldn't get it to work properly. I sent Reg, my friendly local leccy bloke & Man With A Lathe In His Shed to have a look. Turns out the bike's positive earth & the LEDs will only work with negative earth. A bit of a debate going on now as to whether you can switch from pos to neg.
