Not long got home from our horsey duties -Taz runs a livery yard & now the temperature's starting to drop overnight, we have to nip down there in the evenings & put rugs on the 'orses to keep 'em warm.
So- the workshops have been visited & the new panels inspected. Everything's perfect except for that roof panel -& to be honest, it doesn't look that bad. No sharp creases, thank God. A bit of a knock on the front left corner, (driver's side), & a couple of "soft" dents that should pop out with a bit of luck. John & the team reckon we should claim on the courier's insurance, but now everything's here & unpacked, I'm not sure we could prove it didn't happen after delivery. Certainly not worth the hassle & expense of sending it back to the States for a replacement. Think we'll probably end up just accepting it as an unfortunate accident & rectifying it. We've had 4 or 5 shipments of panels & this is the only damage in the whole lot.
Hard to show in photographs, but look at the top right corner of the windscreen that John's holding in this photo & you can see how the roof lifts where it's been bashed.
Look at that lurvverly smooth new bonnet -sorry, "hood".

The other dents are in the centre & towards the rear right side, (passenger side), but are more like the panel's just been popped inwards, rather than proper dents. With the new roof skin laid over the old, you can see where the new rear quarter panels will meet it along the rear pillar. We also have new guttering panels to go along the edges, so will be a whole new, continous skin.

To be honest, not a lot's happened since we last visited a couple of weeks ago. Andy the body guy's been waiting for all the panels to arrive so he knew what needed cutting/repairing etc. Suits us cos we don't get charged by John for storage. He's taken the drivers door off & removed the outside skin to repair a few rust holes.

hi andy and tanya about the couriers and insurance i would take pics of the roof panel and send them to insurance and tell them you are having it repaired and they should meet the costs just a idea but it is looking very good dont see why yous should have to pay for couriers neglience Smiley

I was on a hotrod run yesterday & chatted to a guy who'd imported a pick-up truck from the States. When it arrived there were boot prints up the bonnet & across the roof. The shippers don't care if it's your pride & joy, it's just cargo to them. John said if an insurance claim were made, they'd estimate 25 hours work to repair the damage. Probably a couple of hours work in reality. I think we'll just chalk it up to experience. We actually said in our last email to Jacks Autos in the States that we were worried about the roof panel getting damaged. They said don't worry, we've packed it really well. It arrived in a cardboard box. Not laziness on their part, I don't think they really apreciated just how far it had to travel & how bashed about it would get in transit.

We are Steve. The car's in the best possible hands & although paying the bill's a struggle, in the long run it'll be worth every penny.
John's a very straight talking guy. He doesn't mince his words & tells you exactly what he thinks, good or bad. No bad thing.
From the start he's been telling us just how cr*p our car was, how much needed cutting off & throwing away, how it'd never be a show winner, but would at least be solid & driveable when they were through with it.
Today he offered to buy the car off us for the 6 grand we paid for it!  Smiley
He said, no offence, but it's a shame this car's in your hands now, cos you can't afford to give it the level of finish it deserves to do the bodywork justice -! We know what he means though. It's gone from the ugly duckling that everyone told us to just scrap because it wasn't worth repairing, to the swan that everyone's admiring & can't wait to see on the road.
The guys at the workshop are very impressed with the quality of the pattern panels. They were certainly worth investing in & should last another 40 years.  Smiley Here Taz compares the new drivers side door jamb, (B pillar), panel with the old.

john sounds like a decent guy and no offence to him but no matter on finish if his workmanship is good it could be a show winner no matter what and i personally take my hat of to both of you for doing it   Smiley

I keep saying "our" car, but it's Taz's baby. She's the one who's stuck with it, & been determined to see it through, despite all the doom n gloom merchants saying how awful it was. Those very same guys are now saying how great it looks! I can't wait for the day she comes back from the MOT station in it, clutching a fresh MOT.  Smiley
