The Vikings are coming!
If you've wondered where Taz & I have been for the last 2 days -did anyone notice we weren't here? -we've been Ooop North for a bit of a break. We've both been on holiday from work this week but had lots of other stuff to do, so grabbed a couple of days away before we go back to work on Monday.
We ended up in the City of York, & very nice it was too.
Beautiful buildings, lots of history n stuff -& loads of hairy blokes in woolly cloaks & pointy helmets. Turned out we'd arrived in the middle of their annual Viking festival. There were marauding hordes of axe wielding invaders everywhere you looked -doing their shopping, waiting for the bus, having a quick pint in the pub before they had to get back to plundering & pillaging. Everywhere.

There was a long boat moored on the river -well, a short boat actually. A third size replica. Those Vikings that couldn't fit on it arrived by coach & private car.

There was a Viking battle re-enactment beside the castle at 3pm -which we missed because we were wandering around the museum at the time. Apparently not all the invaders died though cos they did it again at 6.

I didn't know York has an "Eye", the same as London's.
That's the railway station in the foreground.
