While out & about in the car today, Manky and I spotted this outside a petrol station near Godalming, Surrey. Anyone know if this is just an ornament or if it has some other significance, like being the site of a motor factory or something?.
I'm 5'6" so that gives you an idea of just how big they are.

Never forgotten, though many have tried.  Can't find any connection between Godalming & engineering. Basingstoke used to be home to Thorneycroft engineering, a major employer who built heavy lorries, tank transporters etc. The council are in the process of mounting the factory clock tower on a roundabout near the old factory site. |

no real relevance but in 1881, in the Surrey town of Godalming, the world's first public electricity supply illuminated the local streets. Godalming Power Station was driven by water, and was thus also the first hydroelectric power station in Britain. Wonderful place this interwebby thing, oh, and Peter the Great, Tzar of all Russia, stayed there too, went to see the lights I imagine, of course he was 200 years too early so he went away deeply unimpressed.
