Hi, i have been aware of the term HotRods ever since i can remember and in the latter yrs the term RatRods also, ive seen loads of HotRods/RatRods in real life and more via the internet this also including Motorbikes, which brings me to my question..how would you define a HotRod/RatRod bike in its build and looks. I have a far idea but would like some input from people who have had alot more time in around this scene. regards ...VB...

Thinking back a few years, i seem to remember an executive at Harley talking about the design brief for the V-Rod, he explained in a lot of techno speech, which bolied down to be pretty much be "make a hot rod motorcycle". I can see what he means there are several styling cues lifted straight from old US cars & hotrods.

Well.......................... A traditional rod would be a pre '49 car with no mudgaurds (not fenders!) manual box, later V8 and steel or wire wheels, nothing that doesnt help you go fast. But there isnt any hard and fast rules! Generally id say its a car thats been upgraded to go faster, better engine, axles, suspention, brakes. So you can really 'hot rod' anything, but that doesnt make it a 'rod. Rat rods are just an excuse for people not to bother grinding down their welds or finishing it nicely! I dont mind a bit of patina, but there are some real sh*t heaps over in the states that say their rat rods. Exhibit A: What I would say is a pretty tradtional rod. Exhibit B: Not good!

A lot of work has gone into that rod running on drybollics, each to their own.

No hydraulics on it. No thought about scrub lines, oil cooler jammed in the grille between the rad, no windows, modern tyres. But hey if you wanna drive it.

Just a difference of opinion mate! No wars here! Im not into it enough to get angry about these things! Just dont like to see nice cars lumped in with cars that are badly built or dangerous under the rat rod tag. But to be fair we dont see the really bad ones here as we have rules to stop it. but they seem to get away with anything in the states. Ill take a miss on driving a rod with no floors ta! Is your trike going to be satin black/ gloss black tank?

Sounds sweet. Just wondered if I was doing the paint! Byz called me about it a little while ago. Could always use some copper/brass type leafing on the paint to tie in with other bits. Check out some of the rods over on http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/ and the Billetproof show thread, might give you some ideas!

Havent painted for him before. But he has a plan...... so I think I may be doing some painting for him. Hint! And if you read this byz, call me again, no one seems to answer ya phone! Dis you see the pic of the seat at the bottom of the hot rod drags pics, the copper one with all the holes punched in it. looks cool.
