Hiya,
As Taz says, we don't know just what's involved yet. The Car version of the test, currently SVA, (Single Vehicle Approval), is changing to BIVA, (Basic Individual Vehicle Approval), at the end of March. As far as we know the Trike test changes at the same time, but won't be substantially different, so don't get too stressed.

......I've just Googled BIVA & got some very odd websites that definitely have nothing to do with vehicles.  Shocked  Came across the KitCar magazine one though, which shows the June back issue has a feature on the new test. They state, the test is changing but only very slightly. I've just ordered the relevant issue so will have a browse & get back to you.

Kit Car magazine

We're not an absolute authority on anything here -in fact quite often you guys know more than we do, but we do try to keep the info accurate. As soon as we know, you'll know.

Don't panic

The IVA scheme is coming in to replace car SVA, it's part of a rolling programme being introduced between 2009 and 2014 that will see all passenger (category M)and goods (category N) vehicles with 4 or more wheels and trailers (category O) come under EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval.

Category L vehicles; mopeds, bikes, trikes and quads will continue to be approved under existing requirements so MSVA will stay as a UK (VOSA in GB and DVTA in NI) alternative to EC approval.

What it does mean for trikes is that they will have to fit the current MSVA requirements which means a max unladen weight of 1000kg, max length of 4 metres, max width of 2 metres and max height of 2.5 metres. Unladen weight means the vehicle ready to go with all necessary equipment, but not including fuel, rider or passengers.

Cheers

Chris

I`m sorry you had to find out like this, but yes, i visited another forum. I`m sorry, it was only once and meant nothing, just meaningless chat. Grin
Chris`s reply was posted a couple of weeks ago and not yet updated, so assume it still stands.

I suppose it does. I still want the others to be done first though especially the Pop as that one is changing.

As it's Taz's Birthday today I thought I ought to give the ol' shed a bit of a sweep up & take another look at her somewhat neglected trike.
I'll try & get the seat framework & the loop over the axle sorted out in the next few days. We originally set the frame up on a couple of sheets of chipboard, wedged in various places until they sat level & true. Don't really need those now, so we got them out of the way & had a good clean up. We've actually got room to move now & can stand back & take a better look at the lines of the thing.

For those that haven't been keeping up -or can't be arsed to read the whole thread, Taz's trike was originally going to have a steel tractor seat. We thought that a tractor themed trike would be kind of appropriate, given Taz's job as stable manager on a country estate.
In the end we dropped the seat idea as it didn't fit the frame shape, but we're still going with the tractor theme.
I actually like vintage trac'ors, my favourite being the classic Massey Ferguson TE20 -"the Little Grey". So the frame, tank, guards, forks, wheels & those bloomin' huge girder forks will all be powder-coated in Massey Ferguson gloss grey. We'll detail the engine in gloss black. The brake pipes will be run on the outside of the frame rails, rather than hidden inside like mine, & will be in polished copper for a more vintage look.
If you're interested, the front wheel's actually the rear wheel from a Yamaha V Max with a Harley domed cover hiding the shaft drive unit. The rear wheels are old Morris Minor ones, donated by Brock & "banded" -an old hotrodding trick to widen them to take 265/50/15 tyres.
The forks are extra wide girders, made specially for us by forum member FLC. The tank's a "King Sportster", (an aftermarket, widened version of the standard Harley Sportster item). The seat's also an aftermarket Sportster accessory made by Corbin. Front light's an old Suzuki one & the rears will be large trailer jobbies.
I plan to have "TE 20" written in black on each side of the tank -it'll confuse the hell out of everyone -except tractor fans, who'll hopefully see the connection.  Grin

Yup, grey. Taz's Dodge Charger's going to be the same colour. Might even put a detachable tow hitch on the Dodge & tow the trike to shows!

Grin I know what you are saying but we would fit one of those hidden ones that dismantle. That way it's only visable when we put it together to tow something.
