Well so far I've removed the drum brakes but not the back plates yet as I need help. Went shopping at the Uxbridge show today and bought flap-wheels for the angle grinder, a couple of cutting discs and some wire brushes for the drill. Let the clean up commence  Grin God I'm sad. Getting excited over wire brushes!
This is what I've managed to do so far with a garden trowel and some sand paper and a very cheap wire brush.

That wire brush wasn't cheap -it cost me a quid for 3 of 'em.  Angry

Oh yes a whole pound  Grin

Well I'm well chuffed with my brass wire brushes I bought for cleaning my alloy. My Diff is almost blingy  Grin
I'm also now the proud owner of a hacksaw and a work mate from B & Q. (how sad I can hear you all say  Grin )

Right. Today I chopped off half the brackets not needed on the axle and managed to get one driveshaft out using the back edge of a splitting axe! and a lump of wood but the other side won't budge  Angry

Any suggestions that don't contain the word pink would be good.

My God, this had gone back to page 9! Anyway as some of you know the axle is being a git & not letting go of the drive shaft, so on Tuesday we're taking it to Manky's local Tech College and his mate who's a lecturer in the motors department there will hopefully press it out with a hydraulic press or use a slide hammer on it.
Today we've been to Brock's workshop on the outskirts of Marlborough, Wilts & pinched 2 wheels off the Moggy Minor he's using as a basis for his new drag car.
They're 14 inch diameter with 145 tyres & are the same 4 x 4 PCD as the Reliant axle so will bolt straight on. Next job is to shop around for the widest 14 inch tyres we can find, then get the rims banded to fit. Flap's orange trike has 265 x 14 tyres.

While we were at Brock's we also nicked an old Yamaha motocrosser front end. No idea what model it's from, but it's got 37mm diameter fork tubes, the same as the XS750 Yam front end I've got sat in my garden. The XS fork tubes are knackered -heavily rusted, so we'll strip both sets down & see if we can marry the 'crosser tubes up to the XS fork bottoms, (the 'crosser front's got no mudguard or disc brake caliper mounts so we'd rather use the XS bits).
Using the off road fork tubes will also give us a 6 inch longer front end -& what man wouldn't want that!  Grin

Brock emailed me details of tyres last night. Not sure, but I think they're from North Hants Tyres in ..err, Northants.
They do a BF.Goodrich 245/50/R14 for £135 +VAT each,
a 235/60/R14 Goodrich for £90 + VAT
or a 235/60/R14 UniRoyal Tiger Paw for £68 + VAT.

Next job will be to find the wheel banding guy's number & see if they can do the deed to that size.

North Hants Tyres are a company I used to deliver to, when they were in Fleet, , now they have moved to Aldershot!  Is that the same company?

Thanks Ziggy.  Grin I know I haven't built the thing yet but I'm already wondering what colour to have it powdercoated. Any suggestions that don't contain the word pink would be good.
