Tazet & I were at a bit of a loose end on Sunday afternoon, so on the spur of the moment, we stuffed a change of clothes in a rucksack, polished up our bank cards & jumped in my trusty ol' Fester van.
We decided to see how far North we could drive before it got dark or we fell in the sea. By 10pm we'd reached Penrith in the Lake District & decided to book into a hotel for the night, (The West Morland, just off the M6, overlooking beautiful open heathland. Very nice).
We both had Monday off work so after a leisurely, (& huge), fried breakfast at the hotel we bimbled slowly home again, stopping off at Morcambe & Lancaster.
An expensive day trip but it's good to escape once in a while.

My comedy hero -Eric Morcambe, who named himself after his home town. This is their tribute to their most famous son on the seafront. All his best lines & catchphrases are inscribed in the pavement around him. My all-time favourite was his comment when a Police car went past his window with it's siren wailing -"He'll never sell any ice cream going at that speed". Brilliant.

Lancaster Castle. We thought we'd have a look around -but it turned out to be a prison.
So we didn't.

That looks like a brilliant time you two had. One place Shaun and I have never been to and would love to go there.
Looks like you were lucky with the weather as well, not like today, Brrrrrrrr Sad

Yes it was loveyl and the weather was fantastic. I love just jumping in a car/van and just driving like that. No plan, just end up where we end up. No hassles, no ties, just piece and quiet and the two of us. The hotel was brilliant and very clean, (quite posh too). Cumbria is well worth the visit.

600 miles in a day & a half in my little 70 quid van. Bless it.
Yeah, was fun to just get away from it all together. I discovered Scotland a few years ago -well, I think someone probably found it before me, but I didn't know just how beautiful it is up there. So peaceful & tranquil. So we're heading up there for a couple of weeks in October.
We take our own weather with us in a big box.

All around the circles were phrases fron various sketches. got dizzy trying to read them all though. Also one of the rings had just names of all the stars that appeared with him.
