Around 100 years ago there was a particular form of motorcycle sport that was found in the States called board track racing which consisted of highly banked ovals made of wood, with motorcycles belting round as fast as they could. The bikes of that time were pretty basic, in fact, these board track racers had direct drive (no gearbox or clutch, just run a belt of chain from the engine to the back wheel), and also featured no brakes whatsoever. One of the ways to slow down at a faster rate than just closing the throttle was to briefly kill the ignition. Well, the racing of such machines is making a bit of a comeback, courtesy it seems of custom bike builder Billy Lane and “The Sons of Speed” events. https://www.facebook.com/thesonsofspeed/Here are some videos and photos for those that are interested. Now all we have to do to get a similar trend going this side of the pond is.................... I like the look of that. Are there any banked circuits left to race on?

In the UK for motor racing? To the best of my knowledge the short answer is no. Rockingham circuit near Corby was the first purpose built banked motor racing circuit built since Brooklands. Opened in 2001, it had its last race towards the end of 2018. Aside - I was fortunate to ride the banked track at the opening parade, and then witness (with Dsalm) a certain Nigel Mansell belt round the track in an American IndyCar at an amazing pace!! Its worth noting that its lap record stands at average speed of over 215mph by Brazilian drive Tony Kanaan in an American Champ car back in 2001. (worth remembering when certain folk consider a certain other circuit to be Britain's fastest) Brooklands is no longer a complete circuit, and the banking is unfortunately not suitable for any degree of speed, though a visit to the museum can be (IMHO) a grand day out. Think something like York's outdoor Velodrome, but a fair bit bigger, would be needed if it were to be banked. https://www.derelictplaces.co.uk/main/leisure-sites/37640-rockingham-speedway-corby-june-2019-a.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockingham_Motor_Speedway#Oval_lap_recordshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT3ajxJc5-c

Health and safety won't let it happen With a bit of poetic licence - The bikes aren't that far away from (un-braked) Speedway machines apart from their age, cc and not having a clutch, and a few other (ahem) 'details'...…. http://www.scbgb.co.uk/regulations page 44

I wonder if they could get away with describing it as a few demonstration laps rather than a race?! I used to go to the BMF rally at the East of England Showground in Peterborough every year. They had a shale speedway track & the vintage speedway guys would put on a display. They were supposed to sedately pootle around the track a few times, but every year it'd end up as a flat out race with the audience being pelted with shale on the corners
