Wandering along the local canal towpath yesterday evening, 2 canoeists paddled past & out of sight -then very quickly came paddling back again, chased by a very angry male Swan in full attack mode. He's well known by the locals & gets very defensive when his lady's nesting. They're not bothered about people on the path, but really don't like sharing their water with humans.
Sure enough, the female came sedately sailing around the corner, shepherding these little guys. Ten of 'em. The year before last they had 6, but none at all last year, so fingers crossed this time.

The canal passes the back of Farnborough airport & the planes come in low over the water to land. Doesn't seem to bother the wildlife at all, but makes me jump when a jet suddenly appears over the tree tops.

When rowing on't canal, found it best to stop the boat and let the swans go passed, They don't seem to mind if you are stationary and they are always lovely to watch.

After just reading your day's bike posts, I think you should give the canal walks a rest - swans or no swans! Find a nice place to walk where you aren't tempted to jump.  Undecided

My other half got attacked by a swan when canoeing on the Lancaster canal, we lived on boats for 21 years.

We had 4 boats over the years on different canals. Soon gave up the canoeing after the swan had a go. Cheesy

Baby cygnets are so cute - how could they ever have been called 'ugly ducklings'?
