Accidentally stumbled across a radiator mascot that I have been after for a few years on ebay, while searching for anvils.
The dealer selling, had no idea what it was and priced it at a ridiculously low, buy it now price. Should I tell him what it really is or just buy it ?
Hmm, let me think for a nano second.
  I bought it.  Grin
If this makes me morally reprehensible, I can live with it.

Bronze, Pre. 1918 Vulcan lorry mascot, in amazing condition. Most have been polished until all the detail has been rubbed away. Only time I've seen one close to being this good, was in a Bonhams auction catalogue.

 Grin
I paid £15 and that included postage.
As to what it's worth, well I know it's a tad more than that, but it's irrelevant as I wont be selling.

That's a lovely looking sculpture Dave, but a strange bonnet mascot -it's not exactly the flying lady is it. I was going to say it's not very aerodynamic, but I don't suppose the lorries were either Smiley

Nope, they must have had the aerodynamic efficiency of a brick wall. The same figure though slightly smaller was used on the cars they made.

Not destined for the speedster. I'm happy with the rad cap I made. Not sure what's going to happen with that car yet, but should find out in early May. I might be scrapping it.  Cry

Yep. Lot of folk in the same situation. Just waiting for the Gov. to make up their minds.
Made a base for the mascot. As it's Vulcan (Hephaestus) I figured a bit of igneous rock would be rather apt, seeing as he was thrown into a volcano as a child.  Shaping and drilling holes in granite is such fun.

Really adds to it. Makes it more suitable for his standing in ancient lore.

Thanks.
Thought briefly about making the base smooth and polished on the sides, but felt the hewn look would be more suited to the subject. Plus it saved a lot of time.  Cheesy
