The event, first run in 1905 and is said to be the longest running motorsport event in the world.

Organised by The Brighton and Hove Motor Club http://www.brightonandhovemotorclub.co.uk/

The motorcycle entries are managed (by kind invitation of the B&HMC) by the Sprint Section of the VMCC, and cover machines from the early 1900’s to modern day.

It’s not unusual to have a mix of bikes entered from the 1920’s right up to current day, and when we say “entered”, the bikes in the paddock are the bikes that are given the beans along the seafront!
This ain’t a park & polish event as bike speeds can reach around 160mph top 175mph!!!!!

From the VMCC Sprint Section facebook page https://www.facebook.com/vmccsprint/

Nice photo of 'Thor', a V-twin JAP in a Norton Featherbed frame, at a previous Brighton Speed Trials.

Good to see the Brighton & Hove Motor Club (the organisers of the Speed Trials) and Frost of Brighton (main sponsor) featuring in the photo too

my big older brother built and raced a Norvin way back. He blew it at St.Eval in Cornwall trying to catch Terry Hobbs on a new Commando. Funny how a picture (great picture by the way) can stir the old grey matter. Hope to be in Brighton for the trials. Campsite booked.

As far as I’m aware, there should be a couple of MMM folk taking part...............

Well, Sat 1st September brought us a cracking day of ¼ mile competition with 150+ cars and 75 motorcycles entered at a sunny Brighton for the Frosts Brighton National Speed Trials.

The Brighton Speed Trials celebrates an event first run in 1905 and as such there are a variety of motorcycle and car entries that cover many decades, with the oldest motorcycle being a 1928 Douglas, and the oldest car a 1922 Vauxhall.

There of course some more modern and powerful machinery, and there’s top six run off for both cars and bikes.
The Winner ‘Phil Manzano Award’ for the fastest motorcycle time set in the top six run off went to Craig Mallabone on a Hyabusa Turbo with a 9.00 seconds at 178.9 mph, not bad for a piece of un-prepped road at the seaside!!

The winner of the car’s top six run off went to Brent Crooks with a 10.20 seconds at 143 mph.

Thanks as always needs to go to the Brighton & Hove Motor Club for organising the event, the Sprint Section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club who, under kind invitation of the B&HMC, organise the motorcycle side of things, Frosts Cars Lld of Brighton for their continued sponsorship, the medics and last but not least, all the marshals without who motorsport like this wouldn’t be happening.

Some great videos from Nick Pettit can be found here  http://www.ukdrn.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&p=39801#p39801
