Hi All

Looking at making round tube mudguard stays.

What's the best tube to use? I am looking at 20mm conduit, can be supplied in galvanised or black finish.

Would this be a good choice?

Hiya. I always used ERW -steam pipe, (electrical resistance welded). Available from somewhere like Plumb Centre. Used to be about a pound a foot, but now probably more like 2 pound a foot. It's just a good all round basic tube. Comes in different wall thicknesses, between 3 & 4mm, bends nicely in a cheap hydraulic bender, welds nicely. Good stuff. I've built all my trike frames from it & used the 1/2" bore size for the mudguards on my truck, (it's measured on the bore size, not the external diameter).

Steel non galv conduit is much lighter, and easily strong enough, if not a little large at 20mm. I used it for strengthening diagonals, cissy bar and the pillion grab handles, used a flame to help bend it. I would have thought 12 or 15 mm dia tube would be better for your application though?
