I think you, or possibly the revious owner? Were lucky the bits went out the back, i clouted one of mine years ago, within two days the car wouldn't run past 3000 rpm on full load (or any load), it just whistled and died. The cat was in bits inside, and toally blocked..

Yep, heard of that happening. Usually after hitting one of those 'raised cushion traffic calming measures'. Angry

Well with new system in place it passed with a CO reading of 0.04 %  Smiley
Think it would have to be electric to get much better than that.  Grin

Don't think so but it is a bit quieter.

They work fine, if your business is replacing exhausts and suspension components.
We have a short stretch of road here that has 15 humps a two raised junctions. A lot of folk can't or won't drive down it due to the damage or pain it has caused.

The problem with them is they go too far - ensuring people keep to 20 or 30 is one thing, but you have to drop to 10mph or so to avoid having issues, then speed up again.
Finally people have caught on, and in the interests of emissions and the environment they're talking of removing the things.

I always found on that stretch of road you could go as fast as you liked, if you were in a post office Transit, as the wheels fitted either side of the hump. Get upgrade to a bigger van Andy. Grin Grin

Just been to the scrappie, sorry should say vehicle dismantler/recycler  Cheesy looking for some exhaust pipe for the project. Took me around the yard and I noticed two piles of silencers. "Why 2" I ask? I now have a science lesson on Catalytic converters. It seems petrol and diesel are different valuable metals ! Diesel is Platinum and not worth as much as petrol which are Palladium. Since the diesel emission scandal scrap prices have fallen for Platinum. There you go, an average scrap man with knowledge of physics and chemistry  Wink
