A quick report from my sister out in Alberta, Canada. Not really enough photos for a full gallery on the main site, so I thought I'd put them here.

Hello and happy new year!!!
My hubby, “Baggy“, son Freddie & I went out on the ATV for the first time this weekend.  It’s taken a while to get it all sorted, to find somewhere you are allowed to go and to get it all licensed and insured over the holidays.  We went to “Indian Graves” which is an area of the Chain Lakes Provincial Park in Alberta - about 1 & a half hours drive from home for us. It was lovely, but very remote with trees and mountains and nothing else and there are lots of trails there for quad biking etc.  We parked up and spent a couple of hours trying out the bike.  I had a go as well and did O.K - although I'm not quite sure I've mastered the changing gear with your foot thing yet, although there is no clutch which Bags says is a good job!  I've attached some photos.  These were taken just where we parked and on relatively flat land, but I think the trials probably get a lot more exciting once you get into the woods etc - Bags went off for about half an hour on his own - but I stuck with the flat parking area when it was my turn!!  I did feel very alone with Freddie when Bags went off - there was no-one else around probably for miles and although I know the bears are hibernating, I don't think the Cougars are!!
The ATV is a Katerra 2006 DTX110, just in case that means anything!  We did really enjoy it and think maybe we will get a bigger one when we can afford it - Bags can then take Freddie as a passenger and I can ride the smaller one and we can go off together.  The bigger ones are quite expensive though, so we'll have to save up!  Also it means getting a trailer or something as only one ATV will fit on the back of the truck at the moment.  Hopefully we will have it sorted by the time you get here in June!
Also a couple of photos of people ice fishing in Chain Lakes - we just passed them on our way, but it looks a bit hairy to me! Couldn't get really good pictures as we were a little way away, but there were pickup trucks driven right out into the middle of the lakes!

the idea with fishing is to get to the fish , they live in the water , that's the bit under the ice , so make a hole !

The "woman" is an 18 stone bloke with a beard. He's cutting a fishing hole in the ice with a motorised giant corkscrew thingy.
