Yes you really do need one, especially out in the wilds - without it yoúre so limited where you can go.

Absolutely, Mike another option I have is to use the motor/Gearbox unit from a 12v car winch, the type of thing you see on Landies , and the like, so if you, Mike, or anyone has such a thing? and will part with it, let me know, as I only need the drive motor bits, not the winch spools, cable, etc....Morrag
