when I learned to spray paint for offshore use we always primed first before anything else....

Ah but did you use body filler? I wouldn't put filler on paint, of any sort, but that's just the view of a self taught bodger...

Primer first then filler but these days doesn't make much difference ? Wink

I've done a bit of both on my truck, with the appropriate amount of surface keying first, but it's quite a fine body filler.

Epoxy primer to seal the metal. Ordinary primers 1k or 2k let water in. You can fill over epoxy, sand it back a bit then fill.
