I was an apprentice sheet metal worker at Boxfords machine tools in the 90s  they had a telegram from Donald Campbell thanking them for supplying a lathe for one of the Bluebird projects
Good God I wish I could have liberated that before I left

I heard it mentioned on the BBC radio news on the anniversary, with a few words from his daughter from the remembrance service, saying what a true British hero her Dad was.
In the days before risk assessment & health & safety, he was out there, risking his life for what he loved. Most of the time he came back, except this one time when it all went a bit wrong.
Masterly understatement, but sounded like she was definitely made of the same stuff as him. We need more Brits like them.

A team has been working on the restoration on Tyneside after Donald Campbell's Bluebird K7 was salvaged from the lake in 2001, and the BBC website has an article saying that the restored Bluebird K7 is being transported to the Isle of Bute in Scotland where it will take to the water for the first time in more than 50 years and undergo tests this weekend (Aug 4th & 5th).

What a sight (and sound) to behold!
