On a roll with cutting holes in the body. Trimmed up the cockpit edges and made a template of the best side before transferring to the other side, looks a lot better now.

Template.

Need to put some vents in the engine cover for the radiator.

So marked up some cut lines with masking tape.

And cut out, all we need to do now is from the other side stick some mesh on. Wink

Mesh my ar$e! Made up these vents, louvers, grills what ever you want to call them out of bits of scrap. 4" squares with little tabs spot welded on to the 2 side rails every 1.5". Why those measurements? Because that is the smallest size I could fit the end of the spot welder into. Originally there was 8 squares in each but that was too long. so reduced to 6 and about 20" in length.

Put 4 little cuts in the side rails by the edge of vents 2 and 4. You can just see where I nicked the edge of the flange between fixings 2 and 3, and 4 and 5 at the top. This allowed the vents to follow the curve slightly once bolted down this time with 5mm dome heads, then welded up the slits from the other side so it stays in that shape.

Quite pleased with how it looks so far, still have to do something for an air intake in the cowl for the carb. Will come back to that another day. Next thing to figure out will be the fuel flap and access panel at the front.
Warning!    Photo dump.

Cheers

That's really nice, especially that last photo. Attention to detail & finish makes all the difference. Good job chaps!

Attention to detail does make all the difference, reckon we spend longer thinking and talking about some off these parts than making them sometimes. Fuel flap next, used up some off cuts of ali and made a little hinge and bracket. Will be using same method as engine cover.
Parts needed...

Marked out the shape needed after working out where tank should be and then cut, hoping I am right as unable to see tank from inside as it is behind the diff and battery.

http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg579/Kevin_Bingham/Bellytank%20fuel%20flap/DSCF2092_zpsdsyxtbpm.jpg

Then fixed hinge and flanges in the same way as the engine cover

Marked out the flap fixings and done. Not happy with the hinge at the moment, but it is a start so will fettle some more once top body is off and I can access it from both sides.

Not happy with the edges by the  hinge at the moment, will need sorting  Angry
So going to leave for a while and do the exhaust flanges next.
