Test fit of the trim piece. Using string at the moment but have a length of para cord to use eventually or a piece of leather cord. The para cord can only be sown through the eyelet once where as the leather cord could be run back through the same holes which would give a continuous sow line. Also sowing through the holes twice would line up the eyelets a bit more than the string which is not very tight. Might try a fatter piece of pipe or some padding on the final fit but looks okay at the moment. Made a tray behind the dash to mount the fuses and power block on, which will also act as a drip tray for the brake master cylinder  D72 British Bellytank Simply bolted to the extra braces  D72 British Bellytank Put some trim on the edges  D72 British Bellytank And the dash edge  D72 British Bellytank Checked the clearance of the fire wall, about 1"  D72 British Bellytank Bit more CAD design to modify the side panels to allow for the additional braces  D72 British Bellytank Now fits nicely  D72 British Bellytank Started the wiring  D72 British Bellytank  D72 British Bellytank Had a little helper today  D72 British Bellytank Bit more wiring done  D72 British Bellytank Lights work  D72 British Bellytank Might finish wiring tomorrow or pop along to auto jumble in Newbury. |

Finished off the last circuit in the wiring, the start inhibit relay.  D72 British Bellytank Need to Know car is in park and cannot be started but the start inhibitor on this gearbox was knackered and I am not willing to pay £80 for a new one as only need to know 1 position, not neutral or reverse as well. So had this problem and a plan.  D72 British Bellytank Little bit of CAD  D72 British Bellytank Should fit like so  D72 British Bellytank Marked up a bit of ali sheet  D72 British Bellytank Cut out  D72 British Bellytank Then used this push switch picked up from the auto jumble in Newbury yesterday  D72 British Bellytank And mounted to the plate. Wired up to give a closed circuit which will then earth the start relay allowing the start button to be used. Just need to make a lever of the pivot point this evening and done. Total cost £ 2.  D72 British Bellytank |

Felt sorry for the chaps kneeling round the car all the time so sourced an off cut  D72 British Bellytank Hand made in Nepal 100% wool, probably worth more than the carpets in my house, but needs must.  D72 British Bellytank Made a start on the water pipes using what was to hand.  D72 British Bellytank Looks ok, nice and simple, still need to find some better rubber hose ends and make a bracket for the expansion tank. Might not be the best pipe routes for a road car but will only be running for 5 mins at a time. Y'know, the more I read of this build the more I enjoy the fact that you move on to the next task,...& just, well, get on with it! regardless of the particular skills involved to achieve a result, and bingo, jobs a good 'un. really first class sir, and a rattling good story! although I hope your dog aint the Test Pilot!!...so, once again,very nicely done,(doing?), and I look forward to the next episode..  ..Morrag |

Been really busy collecting the last few items to finish, takes so long sometimes to find just one part, but I think we are good now. Made a few brackets for the cooling system, will post pics later, and cleaned up the rocker covers because 'shiney means fast'  D72 British Bellytank |

With Jamies help we put the bottom in the tank yesterday. Now this is not how Jamie's Dad (the boss) said to do it but how I planned to do it. Andy (the boss) was going to do a proper reinforced boat floor as that is what he is used too and poo-poo'ed my plan. So ignoring Andy's 35 years of boat building we started. 2 sheets of ali checker plate laid on the floor with duct tape over the join and holes. Cleaned with a wire brush and acetone the 2 coats of release wax  D72 British Bellytank Glass mat cut to size, did 2 layers of 600 in total  D72 British Bellytank All layed up took about 30 mins start to finish  D72 British Bellytank Did not bother with gel coat or colour as will be painting anyway. Was worried all the gel would run out the edge and make a mess of the edge but looks ok at moment.  D72 British Bellytank This is what it looked like this morning, did it stick ?  D72 British Bellytank Nope popped right off and there was hardly and leakage round the edge.  D72 British Bellytank  D72 British Bellytank Cleaned up the edges with a flap disc and they just need a bit of filling with fibreglass filler and done. Next up is main power cables and water ways before fire up and break the cam in on saturday.................hopefully.  D72 British Bellytank  D72 British Bellytank  D72 British Bellytank |
