The grate blacking's a good idea. Hadn't thought of that. Had the same problem with mine -how do you weather proof it cos paint will just rub off when the leaves move. I ended up greasing mine up & wrapping it in a vinyl sleeve, 30s touring car style.

What spec is the engine going to be?

From memory as have been slowly buying parts

Rover V8 4.0 litre which we now believe to be from a defender?
Stump Puller cam (came with the block)
Standard heads but some special type of valves?
Uprated springs caps and shims
Edelbrock Manifold
Holley 390cfm carb
Rhodes hydraulic lifters
Coyles timing chain set
ARP udjustable pushrods
ARP headset
ARP manifold bolts
ARP header bolts
MSD distributor
Maybe some other bits as well.

Block and distributor are secondhand everything else brand new but purchased over time so not to make me cry when I add it all up. Grin

So, been a while, had some bad news my dad was taken ill suddenly and diagnosed with terminal cancer. Not good, could have walked away from this so easily but have decided, Sod it!, I am going to do all 3 things this year. 1 Visit my dad as much as possible (330 mile round trip) 2. Finish this car 3. Go racing as much as possible.
But, if the worse happens, who knows.
On a happy note , life came and kicked me in the balls again and my van decided to start playing up- throttle position sensor- changed it fine 2 days later back again. Not funny when van will not accelerate above tickover at all and your on the M4. And needing a vehicle to visit dad at any moment spent £3400 on a (reliable)car and insurance. All this almost a year to the day the Dag took a swan dive out the window and cost £3300.
I really should not be spending on this car, but I need to finish it.

Anyways, on with the build.

Made a template of the roll hoop for the headrest.

There's more important things than vehicles mate.
I've got a new lady in my life, but she's currently sat in a hospital in Brighton watching her 20 year old son in intensive care, (possible rejection of a bowel transplant). Yes, I'm on call if she needs me.
Life's short & the older you get, the more acutely aware of that you become. If the car takes your mind off things & makes you smile, do it, but if you need to do other stuff, it'll still be there when you come back.
Looking good. Really hope to see it out this year.  Smiley

Took the bottom body to Jamie's workshop to put the flat bottom in.

And then had a plan for something pointless and time consuming. Popped along to H.C.S Carpetcare Ltd and got talking to the owner Adrian about it. Turns out he trained as an Aircraft engineer but ended up running a carpet binding company and was really interested in the tank and offered me a length of Italian leather at a price I could not refuse. Thank you very much. Had the plan and gathered together the parts.

Life can be difficult sometimes but I must admit the last few days working on the car inbetween visiting dad has really lifted my spirits some what and given me something to do instead of pondering about the future.

Leather is 4 1/2" wide which was too wide and I need one good edge so marked out 2" line

Then stuck a length of 1" double side tape

Fold over to line

You only get one go with this tape and the natural backing to the leather
