i got all the gears to replace the ones missing from the starter motor drive ,  all for free thanks to ,martin, from  hyde in greater manchester   a fellow bike builder and enthusiast,  free of charge ,,thanks again ,martin,,

Get some pics up, you can do without the starter, and perhaps the casing can be repaired?

thats the problem i can,t do without the starter as i can,t kick it over easy enough

seen a recon engine on  ,flea bay,,  £1400   Shocked Shocked

been looking but can,t find alot of engines ,, and the ones i have found  are dog ruff  at around £400  or very expensive at £1400

if anybody see,s any please send me the details or a ,,link,,

even better if one of our monkeys can help me out  i could pay with beer tokens  or ,jaffa cakes ,, Wink Wink Wink

The problem is you could spend a lot of money on buying a motor, to find its not quite what you were sold. With stuff of that vintage you need to know it, or rebuild one yourself. At least its a twin, not four Wink

well,,,

the  pig, build is continuing..

i,v had a few hours fettleing up what i have  and she is going to be kick start only

i got all the internal damage  sorted  but  couldnt get the other gears and shaft i needed ,, i may look into the electric start at a later date

i,m now looking for electrical  / charging circuit parts PMA  permenant magnet alternator,, set up ..would be very nice  Wink Wink

Wahey, good news. Strangely, hearing that a fellow builder is giving in makes me feel depressed, or at least dissapointed. Is there a medical term for it? Proxy project loss?

Agreed.
Mike , a couple of ideas if you are having probs with the kicker. Try to look for a longer one. Many Yamaha (and perhaps other jap) bikes share common splines or if you still want to go the bike pedal route, fab an extension using the bike crank arm.
Perhaps lower the compression ratio a bit.
