Here's a couple of pics of Metronome at the Brighton Speed Trials a 'few' years ago for inspiration  Roll Eyes

I'm helping with something like this at present. V8 Rover, MT75 4x4 gearbox with Sierra diffs. Have a few niggles to iron out, clearance trouble mainly. Hey, I'll get there one day:

As best I know, the Brighton photo was taken in 1971 when the cars were paraded prior to competition, and, yes, its a Roller, but I'll let your better judgement determine the model........  Wink

Click on this link http://www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/roger/phillips_02.html to get some info. By clicking the photos, they'll enlarge for a better view.

Those of certain age may recognise the Capri from the Corgi Whizzwheels flip-up-body model of the time.

Here's a bit of detail as to the construction of Metronome
http://www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk/mike_lintern/metronome.html

The photo below is from Roger Phillips, and clearly shows the Roller - cool huh!

Oh, I remember many of them now you've shook the dust off the old grey matter. Good read and a history lesson to boot. Plus, look at the crowds!  Cheesy

The new gears and chain arrived, so I had to just see if it all fitted. What a difference, good tight fit, that old chain was knackered Andy, There was a fair few degrees of cam rotation, but thats it sorted. Pockets are empty so I have to take a break from "restoring" the motor. I have a LHD conversion on the cards over the Easter period so that should pull in a few shekels  Cheesy

I suppose, just thinking out loud, that with the dizzie drive coming off the cam shaft as well it would affect ignition timing, all that slack.

You'd think there'd be a chain tensioner on there somewhere.
The replacement engine's supposedly been rebuilt by the guy I bought it from, but I've got a nasty feeling yours will end up better than mine!

I've only ever built one - an "early" 4.2, which i bored +20, had to use topped an tailed 3.9 hepolites since there are no oversize 4.2 pistons, skimmed block faces, fancy (compared to the std tin) gaskets, big valves, gas flowed heads and efi plenum, with larger, shorter inlet stacks. Oh, and a stump puller cam if I recall.
The biggest issue i had was the crank wasn't quite straight, nor were the main bearings in perfect line. Apparently quite common.
One mod I did do, was fit a bolt through the front casing, pushing against the cam bolt to stop it moving in and out - should improve chain life and ign timing?

I thought Ahh, there is tensioner missing, so I consulted the great Haynes to find, nope, it just floats about, same as the endfloat on the cam. I may well look at putting that bolt in the end case, just to be clever, good idea, I think. Why didn't Buick or Rover do it Huh

Dunno, not my idea, real steel sell a "kit" for it. I think they call it a cam button. I just made my own.
