That's just strange. Good spot though, you'd never believe it unless you see it. As for the new Maxi, that is a scary thought, think we had 8 in my dads, Plymouth to Torquay night out, he would have flipped if he knew Cheesy

The original maxi was a first in many ways if i recall, 5 speed box, hatchback design, did it have cable gear linkage - now commonplace.

Mini All-4 and Range Rover Evoque
Not a huge difference dimension wise.  The RR is only 90mm (3 1/2") taller. At 4.1m long and 1.8m wide Mini name seems rather silly on these cars.

I agree and then when you see the original mini bombing along the motorway driven by a youngster whose parents probably weren't even born when it came off the production line, it seems really really tiny.

A Maxi was my 2nd car. It was very spacious. My first was the fantastic but dangerous Reliant Robin which I drove on my motorcycle licence. I remember the first time I ever drove it or even drove! I had to get somewhere urgently so I just jumped in and was away but I nearly poohed bricks when I was stuck in traffic on a steep hill. That was scary.

Grin I travelled in a "classic" Mini for the first time ever, earlier this year. A friend at work belongs to the owners club so she & I did the London to Brighton Mini run.
I was suprised how many youngsters were driving them -very similar to the Volkswagon scene. I guess they're far cheaper to insure than a modern hatchback & they can actually work on them themselves. I was also suprised that Minis don't seem to have any suspension, at all! An incredibly bumpy ride all the way down to the coast & back!

Don't know which models had it but the 'hydrolastic suspension' neede topping up regularly - maybe the one you rode in was due for a top-up!

I drove one of the original Mini Cooper S back in the day (when S really did stand for Supercharged!).  Boyfriend failed to tell me that it would fly if I put my foot down - so I did, and it did - straight across a ditch!  Had to go and knock on the farmer's door to borrow planks to get out of the field!   Grin
